Trip Details

 Tsum valley trek is a holy Himalayan valley located in northern part of Gorkha district of Nepal. Tsum valley is amongst the most disconnected Himalayan valleys. This becomes additionally a constrained region until currently. Tsum is derived from Tibetan word “Tsombo” which means bright. The track leads you up into the beautiful surroundings of Ganesh Himal, Budhi Gandaki River. Throughout the trek you will witness wild and uncharted places, home to Gurung ethnic groups. The region was once part of Tibet, which looks totally different from what you will find elsewhere. The general population of Tsum or Tsumbas, welcome you with traditional Tibetian chiya (butter tea) and with some local meal, which represent Tsum culture. The Tsum people never kill animals, even as sacrifice to the gods.The tsum valley is highly rich in cultural, traditional assets. The Tsum valley lies on the northern part of Manaslu and was a compelled district until 2008. The Tsum valley conserves steps of the great Buddhist Yogi Chuchin Milarepa and story about Guru Padmasambhav.

 As we leave the essential manaslu way for the Tsum valley, all of a sudden we get a feeling of coming into completely different valley. You will witness cold water ways, and experience the warm friendliness nature of local people. We further more go to authentic Gumbas (Buddhists Monasteries) of the region which includes: Ranchen Gumba and Dephyudonma Gumba. Each day you will walk between 5-8 hours, with high point of the trek being 4,000m above the largest monasteries in the valley, Mu gumba.

Detail Itinerary

Day 01: Arriving at Kathmandu

After you arrived in Kathmandu, there you will meet our Airport Representative ( Nepal Guide Info team ) and you will be transferred to your hotel by our private visitor vehicle. At night you will be welcomed by traditional Nepali meal.

Day 02: Tsum Valley Restricted area trekking permit preparation and briefing of Trek

 Today, it is rest day, or preparation day. Tsum valley Trekking permit is comparatively cheaper than others restricted areas and also cheaper then Manaslu Trekking Trail. The expedition can be shared with Round Mansalu Trek.

 Day 03: Kathmandu- Arughat

Starting off from Kathmandu it will take 7 hours of drive, which takes us straight into the western mountains of Arughat. You can travel Arughat from Kathmandu in four different ways: Plane, Bus, Private vehicle and motorbikes. This journey holds some of the most captivating scenery and views.

Day 04: Trek from Arughat to Soti Khola to Maccha Khola

 After breakfast, today we will take a drive from Arughat to Soti Khola and then towards Maccha Khola. Along the route you will see local people working on their field. You will also see the scenery of Soti Khola and Maccha Khola.

Day 05: Trek from Maccha Khola to Jagat

You are still out of restricted area of Manaslu and Tsum. Leaving Maccha Khola we will follow the track which has small ups and downs before crossing the Thulo River. Continuing to trek and after few hours of walking we cross Budi Gandaki River on a suspension bridge, before climbing on a rugged trail to Duman. From Budi Gandaki River we will reach Yaru Khola. From there we trek along the west bank of Budi Gandaki River to reach the village Jagat.

Day 06: Trek from Jagat to Lokpa

From Jagat, we will follow the trail and climb over a ridge Salleri and after that drop to Siridibas. Our tour guide will register your permit in checkpoint at Jagat. On the very first Part we continue to walk through riverbank. As we pass through suspension bridge and stop in Philim for lunch. From here we head north passing through Chispani with breathtaking waterfall. We will also explore village of Philim and Japanese made school there. After few hour of walking, we will reach our destination Lokpa. Lokpa have some of the great views of Himalchuli and Boudha Himal.

Day 07: Trek from Lokpa to Chumling

From Lokpa we will take after the trail that drops down towards Lungwa stream. Trail completely passes through thick rhododendron and pine forest toward Gumling. You will encounter numerous up and down until you arrive at small suspension bridge.  Trail gets diverted from this bridge toward Ripchet and Chumling. The old Chumling Gumba and the stone street of the Chumling truly win every travelers heart. There is monastery at the upper end of village you can go for view of Ganesh Himal.

Day 08: Trek from Chumling to Chhokangparo

From Chumling, we will be heading to Chhokangparo. Chhokangparo is located on a flat land and made up of two settlements Chekkam and Paro. We will take the trail that heads towards the suspension bridge and afterward proceed with trek towards the Gho town. From the valley, the Ganesh Himal range can be seen specifically toward the south where it gives tremendous perspectives of the Baudha and Himal chuli tops toward the south-west.

Day 09: Trek from Chhokangparo to Chhule/Nile

We should be cautious about elevation problem, while moving above Chokhangparo. This is the last town travelling north in the upper Tsum valley. From Chhokangparo we will take after the trail trip high up towards Ranchen Gompa. We will visit for brief time and after that we cross the shiar Khola, which leads us to Nile a small valley.

Day 10: Trek from Nile to Mu Gumba

From Nile we head towards Mu Gumpa, the biggest religious community in the area. It is located at the most amazing and most remote point in the Tsum valley. We are close to Tibetan border. Mu Gumba monastery has religious books Kangyur.

Day 11: Trek from Mu Gumba to Rachen Gumba

From Mu Gompa we will take the trail to Rachen Gumba, a religious community. We will continue to trek through the east bank of Shiar River. Rachen Gumba is one of the biggest religious communities in the Tsum valley. Along the way we will find remains of several ancient Gombas.

Day 12: Trek from Rachen Gumba to Dumje

We will keep on heading south and afterward cross a bridge toward the west bank towards Chhokang Paro. After walking for several hours through a narrow trail and drop to a wooden bridge over Siyar Khola to finally arrive at Dumje.

Day 13: Trek from Dumje to Gumba Lungdang

After the breakfast, we will take a path that climbs steeply through thick forest loaded with pines and rhododendron. From that point we will keep on following the tough zigzag trail to at last touch base at Gumba Lungdang. This is another extraordinary chance to remain overnight in Monastery.

Day 14: Trek from Gumba Lungden to Ripchet

From Gumba Lungden we will trek Philim and cross Ripchet. On the way to Ripchet we can witness one of the most stunning waterfalls in the lower Tsum valley, Samba Tingding Chupyang. The village of Ripchet is rich for its good farming lands, which is situated on the top of the Tsum valley.

Day 15: Trek from Ripchet to Dobhan

From Ripchet we will keep on trekking over the trail that goes through a few towns with great views of appealing scenes and surrounding high mountains. We will trek until we get to our destination Dobhan. It is located at the intersection of Shair River that flows from east. Today trek is a direct trekking with couple of tough and downhill trips.

Day 16: Trek from Dobhan to Soti Khola

After breakfast, we head toward Soti Khola. The trail from Soti Khola consists a few ups and down. From that point we will carefully descend finally arriving at Soti Khola. We will go through excellent terraced farmlands and tropical waterfalls among our trek.

Day 17: Trek from Sotikhola to Arughat

This is our last day of the trek. We will begin trekking once again to the edge of Kyorpani. Our trail now drops from that point as we keep on trekking along waterfalls and delightful valleys. We will land at Arkhet bazaar and after that to Arughat Bazaar. Today we will trek along Budi Gandaki valley and through thick forest filled rhododendron and pine trees.

Day 18: Drive back to Kathmandu

After the magnificent Tsum valley trekking, we will drive from Arughat Bazaar towards Kathmandu. It takes around seven hours to reach Kathmandu.

Day 19: Leisure day in Kathmandu

You would surely like to see as much of Kathmandu as possible. After breakfast you will leave for a whole day visiting around Kathmandu valley. You can visit holy Pashupatinath Temple and swyambhunath, incredibly old and essential enlisted in UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Day 20: Kathmandu Departure

Our airport representative will drop you at the International Airport as per your flight Schedule.

TREKKING EQUIPMENT LIST FOR MANASLU TREKKING & TSUM VALLEY 2018 /2019
Nepal Planet Treks ( Nepal Guide info )has always been keen about safety on the journey. We have prepared Trekking Equipment List which the trekkers will need during their trek in Nepal. The following list should help you with your packing. Generally, you should always try to keep the weight of your equipment to a minimum. The weight of your trek bag while trekking should be no more than 16 KG.
You must bring the following items:

Manaslu & Tsum Valley Trekking
Traveling in the desolate mountainous regions is always a risky job. Weather usually remains unpredictable in these regions and the risk of avalanche and natural calamities always prevails. It is equally likely that you might be the victim of High altitude sickness. Also, there exists the chance of physical injuries while following the difficult route. In these cases, you will have to bear the cost of expensive emergency treatment and rescue if you have not already made travel insurance with any of the secure travel insurance companies. Major costs that will be covered by travel insurance include helicopter rescue cost and treatment costs.
So, Nepal Planet Treks & Expedition (Nepal Guide Info) advise you to get insured before joining the trekking package. Read well all the terms and conditions of the insurance company that is offering travel insurance and notify them of the trekking itinerary and activities that we are offering at Nepal Planet Treks & Expedition ( Nepal Guide info ) so that complication may not arise in future if in case you need to claim your insurance. Your insurance should cover emergency helicopter rescue and medical expenses if you are taking the climbing and expedition package. If you are intending to join the trekking in urban areas, insuring for helicopter rescue will not be compulsory. Since Helicopter Rescue is impossible in Tibet, you need not insure yourself for helicopter rescue while trekking in Tibet. It is better if your insurance policy covers such conditions like trip cancellation because your deposits will not be refunded in case of cancellation.
Remember to bring the insurance certificate along with you if you are insured.
