Jungle Safari

Jungle safari in Nepal is one of the extraordinary experiences and opportunities to explore a variety of flora and fauna, the life styles and colorful tradition of the indigenous local people. One can walk to the dense jungle on foot or by jeep with an experienced nature guide or on elephant back and dugout canoe. We offer jungle safari tour mainly to Chitwan National Park, Bardia National Park, Parsa Wildlife Reserve and Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve.

Chitwan National Park:

Chitwan National Park encompasses a most unique ecosystem in the world, containing the Churia hill range, Ox-bow lakes, slow and meandering river system, and flood plains of the Rapti, reu and Narayani rivers at a mere 70 m above sea level. Dominated by species of Sal forests, the park is carpeted by 50 types of Sabai and ‘elephant grasses’ (Sacchrum). The latter grows to more than eight meters in heights. Besides grasslands, there are also riverine forests. The 43 odd species of resident animals include among others, the one-horned rhinoceros, elusive Royal Bengal Tigers and Leopards, Gharial Crocodile, wild and ferocious Gaur Borines, Elephants, four-horned antelope, stripped Hyena, Pangolin, gangetic dolphin, monitor lizard, python, cobra, green pit viper and tortoises. Other animals include the sambar, chital, hog deer, sloth bear, plam civet, and langur and rhesus macaque monkeys. The sanctuary is also renowned for an impeccable 450 species of birds, both resident and migratory, and many of them rare. Among the endangered birds are the Bengal florican, lesser florican, giant hornbill, and black and white storks. The common birds include phesant, peafowl, red jungle fowl, various egrets, herons, kingfishers, flycatchers and woodpeckers.

Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve:

Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve, gazetted in 1976, was established mainly to preserve the habitat for the remaining population (a little over 160) of rare wild water buffaloes. The reserve extends 175 sq. km. to the north of the one kilometre-long barrage that spans the Koshi River. The barrage is the best place in Nepal to see migratory and resident marshland birds. The vast expanse of the open water created by the barrage, and the marshes, lagoons, sandbanks, mudflats and arable land that lie around it offer an outstanding wetland habitat, thus making Koshi Tappu one of the finest bird-watching sites in Asia.
The most rewarding and regular wildlife outings at the reserve will be on foot, exploiting the grasslands, river lagoons and woodlands, and the vicinity of the barrage, a short drive away.
